Intuition vs. Formulas

Intuition vs. Formulas

Please expand on the two post below and make a new post out of it please. One is from a student…one is from the professor. 250 words with APA reference.

In reference on the question “focus on intuition rather than the formulas” I think this is a valid statement and sometime when we think hypothetic and testing we tend to approach these things solely from an analytical standpoint. Formulas do employ a systems that present us with a presumed logical answers based on data and information, but realistically intuitive thinking is an effective way to create a philosophical and human aspect to process the although intuitive thinking can be biased it represents data that cannot be calculated. In many cases intuition can be more valid for making decision and experts can come up with complex and complete evaluations and assessments maybe not a precise as formulas and data but in many cases can be just as effective.

Traditional statistics relies on formulas to get result and a cut-point for decision-making. One of the popular cut points is the alpha level = 0.05. There are many other cut points, such as statistical power, root mean squared error, Kasier’s criterion. However, this kind of dichotomous thinking is problematic. Today more and more analysts emphasizes pattern-seeking, meaning that we should look at the “big picture” rather than blindly following number.
