Voting on a Graph Game?
These last few weeks we’ve been hitting on two fairly big Modern Math Topics: Voting Theory and Graph Theory. For our discussion this time around, let’s combine the two!
Part 1
First, you will need to go out and find yourself a game that you believe utilizes graph theory. This can be a video game, a phone app, a board game, card game, whatever. You need to describe the game to the group though because everyone might not be as familiar with it as you are.
Next, you need to campaign for the game! Convince the group that the game does indeed involve graph theory. No mud slinging though, keep it focused on your game.
Part 2
Once everyone has pitched their games to the class, its time to vote on which game most convincingly utilizes graph theory. You will need to rank your top four candidates from 1st place to fourth place, and then as a group develop a preference schedule from your ballots, and ultimately choose a winner using something OTHER than plurality method.
Finally, discuss with the group if you feel like this was a fair election based on the outcome. Don’t forget to reference specific fairness criterion.
